A little while back we posted about the emergence of HTML5, and the implications for web design and development. We recently built a prototype of our digital publishing product, edop, in HTML5. Here we share some of our learnings and thinking that has come out of that experience. Certainly some food for thought for anyone intending to develop mobile apps.

Historically web designers have had to be satisfied with only a small sub-set of the huge range of fonts available in the print world. This has now changed, and typography can now be given the emphasis it deserves in web design.

HTML 5. Is it ready?

HTML 5 is the next language for structuring and presenting content online. As the previous standards of HTML 4 and XHTML 1.1 were introduced over 10 years ago, HTML 5 represents the next step in displaying rich video, music, image and dynamic content online.

These days I find myself using grids to produce clean, modern websites. A grid helps streamline my design process by providing an organisational framework with commonly used dimensions.
